The W L Champion Scholarship is presented annually to a local university or TAFE student with a commitment to regional health.
Applicants must:
- Be an enrolled current university or TAFE student, studying a discipline related to regional health;
- Have a strong connection to the Maldon district; and
- Demonstrate their ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the health status of rural communities.
Scholarships are to the value of $2000 per year for a maximum of three years.
Dr W L Champion
Dr Champion provided Maldon Hospital’s medical care and served as the town’s General Practitioner from 1950 to 1991. He is a much remembered and respected figure in Maldon and the Board’s re-naming of the scholarship in his honour was at the behest of the local community and with the consent of Dr Champion’s family.
